Abstract Paintings

Over the summer, I made sure to find some time to paint. I had two very large canvases (4′ by 2′) that had been sitting in my dungeon studio for some time. They were begging for some color. I decided to try my hands at painting abstractly.

Basically, my process involved picking a color, picking a spot on the canvas and painting. Once the canvas was covered in color, I also Jackson Pollocked the painting as well (splattered paint on it) .  I had no image of a finished project in my mind, I was just painting to enjoy myself.  I used regular brushes, wine corks, and paint. I was surprised by how much I loved the results. I did each of these in a few hours, on pretty days about a week apart.

My brother claimed the blue one when he saw it, and I painted the second one with my sister in mind. I believe it’s hanging above her sofa in her new apartment. I really like these, but even more than the resulting products, I enjoyed this process of painting with no rules.
